UNDERSTANDING YOUR VARICOSE VEINS
Venous insufficiancy is a medical condition in which the veins in the legs are unable to effectivley pump blood back up to the heart, resulting in blood pooling in the legs. This condition can occur due to damaged or weakened valves in the veins, which normally help to prevent blood from flowing backwards in the veins.
The most common symptoms of venous insufficiency include swelling, pain, and a feeling of heaviness or discomfort in the legs. In more severe cases, the skin around the effected veins may become discolored, thickened, or develop ulcers.
Venous insufficiency can be caused by a varity of factors, including obesity, prolonged sittig or standing, pregnecy, family history, and certain medical conditio s such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or varicose veins.
Treatment for venous insufficiency may include lifestyle changes such as excderise, weightloss, and avoiding prologed periods of sitting or standing. Compression stockings may also be recommended to help improve blood flow in the legs. In some cases, medication or surgery may be necessary to address underlying medical conditions or repair damaged veins.
